Based on a works drawing of 1874, this is a typical Neilson pug of a kind widely employed by contractors, colliery owners and other industrial users. Its ogee tank, hubba-bubba dome and archaic gib-and-cotter coupling rod bosses are classic mid-Victorian features and yet several locomotives of this class were still at work in the 1950s and even beyond.

The kit materials are used intelligently enhance the character of the prototype - etches for the thin, sheetmetal bodywork, lost waxes for small valves and details, with whitemetals for the chunky bufferbeams.
